The business is engaged to assist commercial and residential clients with waste removal and waste management through the use of heavy machinery (trucks) and dumpsters. It has been owned by a single owner since 2002. The business started with one truck and 15 dumpsters and has since grown to 6 trucks, 162 dumpsters, 22 storage containers, and one stationary compactor. It is referred to as a “roll off” business. Dumpsters are placed in a storage area, trucks are housed in a nearby facility, and then via customer request by either phone or internet, truck and dumpster are dispatched to the client site. The company services both residential and commercial customers. The construction trade, and the amount of residential movement to a “downsized” property presents wonderful opportunity for this business.
The current owners believe that the business’ bottom line can be greatly enhanced by implementing some operational improvements such as more efficient route scheduling, the addition of a small container operation, and the possibility of adding services such as porta-potty drop off/pick up. Improvements from a marketing and sales perspective which will positively impact profitability include working with more national brokers; expanding local and regional advertising; increasing the company’s web and social media presence; and hiring an inside/outside sales person.
All disposal companies compete with the two large entities in the industry, Waste Management and Republic Waste Services. The industry is very fragmented and regional and Pentucket Disposal has been able to grow and gain market share consistently over the last few years.
The owners are looking to concentrate on another outside business (non-competing) and/or retire.
The current owners are willing to stay on and train for two weeks to four weeks and be available in an advisory and consulting capacity during the first few months or so of operation for a new owner, as needed, and as negotiated.
